A cheap – and simple – promotion tip

Spread the love

If you’re looking for an innovative and inexpensive way to promote a local event, you can do no better than a tip I received from Philip Watkin, a graphic designer from Ireland.

His suggestion is to put your message on yellow Post-it notes and stick them up in places your target audience is likely to be: the coffee shop, the library, the gym.

“People seem to be programmed to read them,” Phillip said, “and thus your readership of said promotion becomes far greater than some of the more expensive forms of advertising, with the added advantage of being very target specific to your audience.”

When I got this tip from Philip I grinned. I can totally imagine being compelled to read a yellow sticky while I’m waiting in line for my coffee.

This could be a great tool to promote a workshop, a concert or even a sale. Anything that’s short and sweet.  An added bonus – if you have your phone number or website on the Post-it, interested people can just take it with them for easy connection.

If you don’t relish writing out dozens of Post-its by hand, this would be a perfect task for a virtual assistant or your kids. Or if this is something you’re planning to do long term, you could get a quote from a print shop for getting them done.

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer – or on a limited budget – you could print out your message on coloured paper and cut them out to size. Then you can buy glue sticks that are designed to be removable at craft stores or scrapbooking stores.

If you try this method of promotion, please let us know how it works.
