Create Amazing Images for Your Social Media Posting

Posted on March 20, 2018
by Andrea J. Stenberg

When marketing online you need to create amazing images to go along with your posts – eye catching, thumb-stopping visuals to make people want to stop, look and share. You can’t just type a message and hit share any more.

Why Use Images?

BuzzSumo found that online articles with an image once every 75-100 words received double the social media shares as articles with fewer images. (Source)

Start with Great Photos

One of the easiest ways is to buy “stock” photos. There are a number of sites that sell photos – either individually, in a bundle or by subscription.

The pros – these are beautiful, professional photos. You can search the sites using keywords to find the appropriate subjects. And you know you have the legal right to use them on your website and social media.

The cons – Some of these sites are pricey. If you’re sharing a lot of content on your website or on social the price can add up fast. Additionally, stock photos seem cold. They look too polished and don’t create a connection between the viewer and your business. Read More→

LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest and more on Video Marketing Madness

I was a guest on Video Marketing Madness with Steve Sleeper and Ray the video guy – the audio is embedded below or you can listen here.

Highlights of what we talked about:

We chatted about video on Facebook – it’s competing with YouTube as a marketing tool. Facebook video ads are very cost effective.

How to use Facebook to promote small mom & pop local businesses. Local businesses can band together with other local businesses to cross promote each other. If you go into a local business they’ll often talk to you about other businesses you might want to frequent. They should be doing the same thing on Facebook – everybody wins.

LinkedIn is more than an online resume – it’s a marketing platform. And publishing blog posts on LinkedIn’s publishing platform increases your exposure and establishes you as an expert.

Pinterest is a surprising tool for SEO and driving traffic to your website. Create a board and pins using keywords and have each pin link back to your website.

Ninja tip: Combine LinkedIn and Facebook by downloading your LinkedIn contacts and uploading the email addresses to Facebook to create a custom audience.

How to Get Traffic to Your Older Blog Posts from Pinterest

Posted on June 25, 2014
by Andrea J. Stenberg

If you’ve been blogging for a while you probably have posts you made when you weren’t thinking about how it would look when shared on Pinterest.

And while you don’t want to go back and update the images on all your blog posts, the most popular ones – the ones still getting traffic – should have their images updated.Drive traffic to older blog posts from Pinterest. Update the images on older blog posts that are still getting traffic.

Why? If people are still visiting these posts, some of them are going to want to share them on Pinterest.

However, if the image shared is unattractive, you won`t get any viral traffic from the pin. It`s a wasted opportunity.

Here’s one way to decide where to start. Go to your Pinterest Analyics and choose “Most Recent”. Then look for pins with ugly photos. These are blog posts that need new images.

Go back and change the photos on those blog posts so future pinners have something beautiful to share.

What should you replace the ugly images with? Make sure the images are tall, not wide. Use an eye-catching photo and great design. Include your logo or web address on the image.

Be sure to include a description of the blog post in the meta description of the image. Many people will pin and not edit the description so include the words you want to see. Write it to encourage pinners to click through to your blog.

7 Pinterest Marketing Tips for Your Small Business

Posted on June 4, 2014
by Andrea J. Stenberg

Pinterest is a great tool for driving traffic to your website even if you don’t sell gardening or home decor products.

Here are 7 tips for using Pinterest to market your business:Seven Pinterest Marketing Tips for Your Small Business

  1. Make sure you have a business account. It doesn’t cost anything but allows you access to valuable analytics such as your most repined pins, the reach of your pins, the number of daily clicks to your website from Pinterest.
  2. Tall vertical-images do better than short, wide images. A large percentage of users are viewing Pinterest from their mobile devices and tall images show up better. Make sure your images are no more than 554 pixels wide.
  3. Don’t just repin other people’s content. Be sure to create and pin original content. Use your cell phone to capture photos and photo editing software to create attractive pins. Don’t just pin product images – share tips, advice and things you are interested in.
  4. Don’t be all about yourself. Pin images from other people’s websites (leave the link to their site intact to give proper credit). Show people you’re all about sharing interesting content, not just self promotion.
  5. Include the Pin It button on your website so visitors can pin images themselves.
  6. Add beautiful images to your website and blog. Be sure to include a meta description for each image. This meta description will populate the pin unless the pinner edits it.
  7. Don’t pin dozens of images at one time. Spread your pins throughout your day and week. If you add all your pins at once you’ll overwhelm your followers’ feeds and possibly annoy them. Also, by spreading out your pins you’ll reach more people.

How to choose which social media site makes sense for you.

Which Social Media Site is Right for You?

Posted on February 3, 2014

There are so many social media sites it’s hard for the average person to know which one is right for their business. Really, it comes down to your goals – what are you hoping to achieve with your social media marketing.Which Social Media Site is Right for You?

The chart below gives you an overview of what benefits you can have from each of the various sites.

Some sites are really useful for communicating with your customers. For example Comcast is well known for using Twitter to provide customer service.

This is useful if you have someone dedicated to monitoring Twitter and is able to respond quickly. If you’re a one-person shop and don’t want to be tethered to your computer/smart phone then maybe this isn’t a strategy for you.

Social media can be excellent for brand exposure, particularly for large corporations. However, for small and micro businesses, having a large reach on social media isn’t realistic unless you’re willing to invest a lot of time into your marketing.

Some sites are better than others at sending traffic to your website.

For many of you, this should be one of your goals with your social media marketing. You want to get people off of social media and onto your website or into your store. Therefore a site like Flickr isn’t likely to be much good to you and your business.

Finally, using social media to get yourself ranked higher in the search engines like Google (known as SEO) is Read More→
